Look what I got for christmas... a TARDIS 4-port USB hub!!
http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/acces sories/9223/
It makes the sound effect every time you plug in a USB cable, and the light on top flashes... the attention to detail is incredible, it even has the writing "POLICE TELEPHONE FREE..." on the side in tiny writing. The description on the site ends with "The Bad Wolf is watching." I love it.

Merry Christmas, all! I have an odd request.
I got a Kindle for Christmas, but I'm not sure which books are available for it. What are the best books you know of that are available on the Kindle?
I love contemporary poetry (actually, any poetry really) and I'm interested in (but not limited to) reading new fiction. My favorite books include The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers, Reasons to Live by Amy Hempel, and Quicksand by Tanizaki Junichiro.

Design: Tardis Washcloth
Designer: Lorenia - freebie available here
Yarn: Patons Cotton, DK weight
Fibre: 100% cotton
Colour: Denim 2697
Needles: 3.75mm
Mr Beebarf is turning into a Doctor Who obsessive. I've also got several friends who are also somewhat more than fans, and they told me about this community and design. I had some blue cotton in my stash - snaffled very cheaply at a charity shop - and I was off. In less than an evening, I had a gift for my sweetie!
I made the border garter stitch rather than single rib, as garter stitch is speedier but other than that, I made no changes.
Fortunately, Mr Beebarf doesn't have an LJ account so he doesn't know about things like patterns for Doctor Who scarves. I'd like to keep it like that ;o)

Using the TARDIS socks pattern as posted by
swallowedbysky (thank you for posting it!), I made a Christmas stocking for a friend who is a fan of DW. I followed the pattern exactly but used 4ply yarn (instead of fingering weight/sock yarn) and a size 1 (US) needle. It looks a little smaller, in the pictures, than it actually is. :)
Now to actually make some socks to wear!

Puh-leeze do not mistake this for one of those scientifically produced, computer algorithm-culled, 'Best Of 2009' lists that you see in comics curious magazines like Newsweek and Wizard. This is purely the product of one seriously scatterbrained blogger who has been obsessing over funnybooks for far too long, yet still feels woefully behind in his reading. (Hell, truth be told, most of these books came out pre-2009!) The only criteria for inclusion in this list was this: Out of every comic I curled up with, huddled over, and ate my favorite meals with in the past twelve months, which ones do I still think of most?

Last year it was a TARDIS that materialized at our doorstep, this year it was something much more dark and sinister; a Dalek. Made out of gingerbread, Kit Kats, Munchies and white Maltesers, maybe he wasn't as frighting as he could have been. ( Here's some pictures for you to form your own opinion. )

Yesterday, Jerry "Tycho" Holkins had some interesting things to say on the Penny Arcade blog about the Kindle, the new Nook, and the nature of electronic book selling and file sharing. If it's all right, I'll include his comments under the cut.
