if i only use this thing to write updates, and make sure that those updates are positive. right? there's no use in letting livejournal be a crutch for negativity.

some good things that have happened are:
i took a clarinet lesson with peter hess, and he was on letterman a month later
the hold steady finally released their new album and it's brilliant
i am finally writing songs. i wrote an entire song last night and i think it's pretty good
i'm gearing up to go back to school - back to school shopping is happening today
i'm going to get in shape before i go back to school - early morning treadmill runs start tomorrow

that's about it! what are some good things happening to you?

edit: oh, and this is how many books i've read so far this year:

At this point with 10,000 CDs released each day and used record stores brimming over with 99c CDs and thrift stores offering CDs and records pennies per pound the best way to really organize it all is to break it down onto tapes. Just plow through the records and record the best bits onto cassette. If you really need to transfer it to CDR, go for it, but remember: you’re turning it into a digital format and therefore your ear-heart will tire. Huh? Yeh, you’re ear-heart. Dig it: normal bias cassettes rule. (Next to vinyl of course). And it’s not a fetish either (well, not entirely…). Vinyl is analog—not a definitive sound wave like digital, which is numerica and perfect transcription. With digital, your brain hears all the information in its numeric perfection. Analog has the mystery arc where cosmos exist, which digital has not reined in. We used to listen to records over and over and each time they would offer something new because the ear-heart would respond to new resonations not previously detected. It was like each kiss had a new sensation. Digital format offers one cold kiss. A mere peck. I, for one, grow weary after one taste. Most of your record players have become tabletops for CDs. It’s a drag but it’s the way of Kali Yuga and who are we, mere mortals, to stop the male-driven technology? These are the “dark ages,” but it will ultimately serve to sooth the mother by 2018 thereabouts. Whoa, wait…what am I going on about…oh yes, since your records are in storage, make tapes, mix tapes, and stick them in the tape player in your car. Don’t all cars still have cassette functionality? Or has it just gone full on CD?? Oh God… Anyway, a cassette rocking at normal bias will bring healing analaog tones to the ear-heart. Trust me. You won’t crash.

...chew on that.
